Ultra-Thin Stainless Steel Precision Forming for Optical Applications


Project Overview

TM International supported the development of an ultra-thin stainless steel precision forming component used in a compact optical camera module application.

The project required extremely thin stainless steel material, stable narrow-width feeding, precision forming, and fine deburring to meet appearance and functional requirements for miniature optical assemblies.

Technical Challenges

Ultra-Thin Material Handling

The component utilized extremely thin stainless steel material down to:

0.05 mm SUS stainless steel

This thickness is thinner than standard paper and requires highly stable material control during feeding and forming.


Narrow-Width Feeding Stability

The material width was extremely narrow, requiring:

  • Stable feeding tension control
  • Precision progressive tooling alignment
  • Anti-deformation process control

Burr & Surface Quality Control

Because the component is used in optical applications, the project required:

  • Fine deburring
