The maximum strip thickness for the TM multi-slide forming machines listed below is 2.0 mm, supported by the CNC-45 and CNC-50 series. Other models have lower thickness limits. The appropriate machine depends on material properties, strip width, part geometry, and tooling requirements.

Multi-slide forming has no single thickness limit that applies to every machine. Always check the specifications of the selected model and confirm its suitability for the intended component.

TM Multi-Slide Forming Machine Thickness Specifications

The following specifications show the strip capacity of TM International’s main multi-slide forming models.

Machine modelStrip thickness rangeSpecified strip width
CNC-160.1–0.9 mm20 mm
CNC-380.3–1.5 mm40 mm
CNC-450.3–2.0 mm40 mm
CNC-50 series0.3–2.0 mm60 mm

The CNC-45 and CNC-50 series share the same maximum strip thickness of 2.0 mm, while the CNC-50 series offers a wider specified strip capacity.

These specifications provide a starting point for machine selection. Maximum thickness and width figures require application review before confirming production feasibility.

What Determines the Practical Thickness Limit?

Material Grade and Temper

Material strength and ductility affect the force needed for cutting and bending. Two strips with the same thickness can require different tooling and machine capacities if their material grades or tempers differ.

For evaluation, specify the exact alloy and material condition, including hardness or tensile strength when available.

Strip Width and Cutting Requirements

Strip thickness must be considered together with strip width. Wider bending sections and longer cutting perimeters generally increase the required force.

A part made from 2.0 mm strip therefore needs an assessment of its cutting and forming operations, even when the thickness falls within the machine’s listed range.

Bend Geometry and Tooling

Bend radius, forming direction, and tool access influence production feasibility. Tight bends or complex shapes may require a different forming sequence, additional support, or revised tooling.

The part drawing helps determine whether the selected machine can complete the required operations.

Press and Forming Slide Capacity

A multi-slide forming machine combines feeding with stamping and forming operations. Its press station and forming slides have separate capacity limits.

Machine selection must account for the load at each operation rather than relying only on the maximum strip thickness.

Strip Thickness vs. Wire Diameter

Strip thickness and wire diameter are separate specifications. A machine’s wire capacity does not indicate the thickness of flat strip it can process.

For example, the TM CNC-45 lists a wire diameter range of 1.5–5.0 mm and a strip thickness range of 0.3–2.0 mm. The 5.0 mm wire rating should not be interpreted as a 5.0 mm strip thickness capacity.

How to Select a Machine for Your Part

To evaluate a multi-slide forming application, provide:

  • A dimensioned part drawing with tolerances
  • Material grade and temper
  • Strip thickness and width, or wire diameter
  • Required production rate and expected volume
  • Any additional operations, such as tapping, welding, or assembly

TM can review these details to recommend a suitable machine and tooling configuration.

For strip components up to 2.0 mm thick, the CNC-45 or CNC-50 series may be suitable candidates, subject to technical evaluation. Applications above 2.0 mm require a separate equipment assessment and fall outside the listed strip thickness specifications.

Send your part drawings to TM to discuss machine selection and tooling requirements.

Specifications are subject to change without notice. Final machine selection and production capability require application-specific confirmation.
